Tips for safe Trick or Treating

At Benjamin Franklin Plumbing safety is very important to us, so we would like to share with you some tips to keep safe during trick or treating this year!

1. Instead of masks choose face paint. Unlike a mask it won’t obstruct your child’s view when trying to cross the street. Just remember to test a small amount on your child first to make sure they don’t have an allergic reaction.

2. Want to make a difference this Halloween? Trick or Treat for UNICEF USA! Trick or Treat for UNICEF started in 1950 and since then has raised $175 million for the USA. For more information about how to get started this season go to https://www.unicefusa.org/trick-or-treat. They have tons of resources to help you get started!

3. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers. If possible wear light colored clothing.

4. Put down electronic devices, keep your heads up! Always be aware of your surroundings.

5. Make sure your children make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of cars.

6. Make sure costumes fit right. If too long hem them prevent tripping. Don’t sew? Try safety pins or duck tape!

7. Plan your route before you go. Try to avoid a route that crosses busy streets, or neighborhoods with no sidewalks. If there is no path to walk on, face traffic and stay as far left as possible.

8. If driving, go slow! Add heavy pedestrian traffic into your drive time. And remember that children are highly unpredictable during trick or treating, don’t be driving distracted.

9. If driving, enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and cautiously.

10. Make sure your flashlights have fresh batteries.

11. Have a good meal before trick or treating. Then maybe your kids won’t fill up on candy later! Although treat tampering is VERY rare it is still a good idea to check treat bags.

Stay safe, Happy Halloween from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Northfield!

Thanksgiving Tips

The holidays can bring stress for only you, but also your plumbing. Here are some tips from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing® of Northfield, MN to help keep things running smoothly:

  • Never pour cooking oil or fats down your drain. Oil can solidify and clog your line. Pour oil and fat into a container or jar and then throw it in the trash.
  • Use your garbage can instead of your disposal to get rid of drippings and leftovers. Fats, bones and fibrous foods can clog or damage your drain and disposal.
  • Have your kitchen drain line and plumbing lines maintained by a professional plumber regularly to prevent problems during heavy usage.
  • Bathrooms can get a lot of extra use. Try and wait 10 minutes between showers and consider a tankless water heater to have hot water when you need it. Remind guests not to flush paper towels or large, bulky items down the drain.

To find out more about how to best prepare your plumbing for the holiday season, visit www.benjaminfranklinplumbing.com or make an appointment with a Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Northfield, MN at 507-645-4037. And remember we offer 24 hour emergency service.

Thank You Veterans!

Thank You Veterans!

In honor of Veteran’s Day we would like to share with you our two favorite quotes and our two favorite veterans!

“How Important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” – Maya Angelou

“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” – Elmer Davis

Did you know…
The owner of Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Northfield Gary Kes’ father Myles served in Japan as an MP for the United States Military during WWII? – such a good looking guy (picture below) but we might be bias! Also Gary’s brother Ron served as an United States Marnie in the Vietnam War.

Did you know….
Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Many other counties celebrate the day still as “Armistice Day” including Canada and Great Britain.

Thank you to all who have served.
